UNITED NATIONS SUSTAINABLE GOALS

Maryana Ivlev

If you google “UN goals” the first suggestion will probably be “UN sustainable development goals.” You will then see the description that “The Sustainable Development Goals are a collection of 17 global goals set by the United Nations General Assembly in 2015 for the year 2030.” That is right: these are global goals for all of us. You can read more about each goal on the UN website here: https://www.un.org/sustainabledevelopment/sustainable-development-goals/

Think about how many years we have left to reach these goals, how old will you be by that time, and if you have children, how old will your be children by 2030? Pick 2-3 goals that are the dearest to you personally. Mine are: 5) Gender Equality and 8) Decent Work and Economic Growth.

Pick 2 more random goals (I picked 4) Quality Education and 12) Responsible Consumption and Production.) Think of how your dearest goals might be related to these two random goals. Here is an example of how I connected one of my pairs: To this day in some countries women are denied education. Do you see how it works? If anything, this can be a great conversation starter. Converse away!
